Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham Bus Stop Attack Succumbs to Injuries

A woman stabbed repeatedly in the neck in an unprovoked attack near a bus shelter within Birmingham has passed away, authorities verified.

The victim, aged 34 years, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, just prior to 9 PM GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.

The suspect, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham court on Monday, charged over the attack.

He was previously accused with attempted murder however after the victim's passing charges were upgraded to murder.

Police Response

Authorities stated police personnel will remain around the city centre through Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.

Investigators are requesting for witnesses who might have observed the accused, identified as a Black British national, and is believed to have been wearing grey athletic wear, black hat, athletic shoes with a backpack.

Attack Site Details

The knife attack occurred near Bullring retail complex, opposite the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station.

Police said they were treating it as a random violent act with investigators stating they were working to understand why it happened.

Eyewitness Reports

Shalini Doal, who works nearby, described the emergency response after completing her work period at about 22:00 on Friday.

She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, and said some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances around 9 PM.

"Many my colleagues use transit services, ride the tramline... our security is compromised fundamentally, in the downtown area."

Another individual, 25, from Stoke-on-Trent, mentioned visiting the city fairly regularly to see his girlfriend resident there, and was concerned about what had happened.

"It causes concern about my partner," he stated.

"She lacks transportation employed at major concert locations... considering something completely unprovoked occurred, you know, it's terrible."
